Thatweareinthemidstofcrisisisnowwellunderstood。Ournationisatwar，againstafar-reachingnetworkofviolenceandhatred。Oureconomyisbadlyweakened，aconsequenceofgreedandirresonsibilityontheartofsome，butalsoourcollectivefailuretomakehardchoicesandrearethenationforanewage。Homeshavebeenlost；jobsshed；businessesshuttered。Ourhealthcareistoocostly；ourschoolsfailtoomany；andeachdaybringsfurtherevidencethatthewaysweuseenergystrengthenouradversariesandthreatenourlanet。

Thesearetheindicatorsofcrisis，subjecttodataandstatistics。Lessmeasurablebutnolessrofoundisasaingofconfidenceacrossourland—anaggingfearthatAmerica’sdeclineisinevitable，thatthenextgenerationmustloweritssights。

TodayIsaytoyouthatthechallengeswefacearereal。Theyareseriousandtheyaremany。Theywillnotbemeteasilyorinashortsanoftime。Butknowthis，America—theywillbemet。

Onthisday，wegatherbecausewehavechosenhoeoverfear，unityofuroseoverconflictanddiscord。Onthisday，wecometoroclaimanendtotheettygrievancesandfalseromises，therecriminationsandworn-outdogmasthatforfartoolonghavestrangledourolitics。

Weremainayoungnation，butinthewordsofScriture，thetimehascometosetasidechildishthings。Thetimehascometoreaffirmourenduringsirit；tochooseourbetterhistory；tocarryforwardthatreciousgift，thatnobleidea，assedonfromgenerationtogeneration：theGod-givenromisethatallareequal，allarefree，andalldeserveachancetoursuetheirfullmeasureofhainess。

Inreaffirmingthegreatnessofournation，weunderstandthatgreatnessisneveragiven。Itmustbeearned。Ourjourneyhasneverbeenoneofshortcutsorsettlingforless。Ithasnotbeentheathforthefaint-hearted—forthosewhoreferleisureoverwork，orseekonlytheleasuresofrichesandfame。Rather，ithasbeentherisk-takers，thedoers，themakersofthings—somecelebratedbutmoreoftenmenandwomenobscureintheirlabor，whohavecarriedusuthelong，ruggedathtowardsroserityandfreedom。

Timeandagainthesemenandwomenstruggledandsacrificedandworkedtilltheirhandswererawsothatwemightliveabetterlife。TheysawAmericaasbiggerthanthesumofourindividualambitions；greaterthanallthedifferencesofbirthorwealthorfaction。

Thisisthejourneywecontinuetoday。Weremainthemostroserous，owerfulnationonEarth。Ourworkersarenolessroductivethanwhenthiscrisisbegan。Ourmindsarenolessinventive，ourgoodsandservicesnolessneededthantheywerelastweekorlastmonthorlastyear。Ourcaacityremainsundiminished。Butourtimeofstandingat，ofrotectingnarrowinterestsanduttingoffunleasantdecisions—thattimehassurelyassed。Startingtoday，wemustickourselvesu，dustourselvesoff，andbeginagaintheworkofremakingAmerica。

Foreverywherewelook，thereisworktobedone。Thestateofoureconomycallsforaction，boldandswift，andwewillact—notonlytocreatenewjobs，buttolayanewfoundationforgrowth。Wewillbuildtheroadsandbridges，theelectricgridsanddigitallinesthatfeedourcommerceandbindustogether。Wewillrestoresciencetoitsrightfullace，andwieldtechnology’swonderstoraisehealthcare’squalityandloweritscost。Wewillharnessthesunandthewindsandthesoiltofuelourcarsandrunourfactories。Andwewilltransformourschoolsandcollegesanduniversitiestomeetthedemandsofanewage。Allthiswecando。Allthiswewilldo。
