Ofcoursethechildren’seyesturnedtofollowthelion;butthesighttheysawwassowonderfulthattheysoonforgotabouthim.Everywherethestatueswerecomingtolife.Thecourtyardlookednolongerlikeamuseum;itlookedmorelikeazoo.CreatureswererunningafterAslananddancingroundhimtillhewasalmosthiddeninthecrowd.Insteadofallthatdeadlywhitethecourtyardwasnowablazeofcolours;glossychestnutsidesofcentaurs,indigohornsofunicorns,dazzlingplumageofbirds,reddy-brownoffoxes,dogsandsatyrs,yellowstockingsandcrimsonhoodsofdwarfs;andthebirch-girlsinsilver,andthebeech-girlsinfresh,transparentgreen,andthelarch-girlsingreensobrightthatitwasalmostyellow.Andinsteadofthedeadlysilencethewholeplacerangwiththesoundofhappyroarings,brayings,yelpings,barkings,squealings,cooings,neighings,stampings,shouts,hurrahs,songsandlaughter.
“Oh!”saidSusaninadifferenttone.“Look!Iwonder-Imean,isitsafe?”
LucylookedandsawthatAslanhadjustbreathedonthefeetofthestonegiant.
